Application
The CPU 1512SP-1 PN is the CPU for applications with medium requirements for processing performance and speed of response in discrete production technology. The CPU 1512SP-1 PN can be used as a PROFINET IO controller or as distributed intelligence (PROFINET I-Device). The integrated PROFINET IO IRT interface is designed as a 3-port switch so that a linear topology can be set up in the system via Port 1 and 2, and so that a programming device/PC or HMI device can also be connected via Port 3.
When used as an I-Device, the CPU 1512SP-1 PN enables distributed preprocessing of process data locally and only delivers the information actually required to the higher-level PLC. This has the following advantages:

- For machines and systems in which higher mechanical and/or EMC loads act on the devices, a SIMATIC BusAdapter with connection via FastConnect (FC) or fiber-optic cable (SCRJ or LC) is recommended. Likewise, all SIMATIC BusAdapters with a fiber-optic cable connection (SCRJ, LC) can be used with the increased loads.
- BusAdapters with connections for fiber-optic cables can be used to cover high potential differences between two stations and/or high EMC loads.
