Siemens SIMATIC STEP 7 Safety Basic V16, Upgrade – 6ES7833-1FB16-0YE5

Overview

STEP 7 Safety Advanced, configuration and programming

  • For creating safety-related programs on the STEP 7 user interface
  • For seamless and easy to use integration of safety-related functions into the standard automation
  • All the required configuration and programming tools are integrated into the STEP 7 user interface and utilize a common project structure
  • STEP 7 Safety Basic option package for parameter assignment and programming of the fail-safe S7-1200 Basic Controller
  • STEP 7 Safety Advanced option package for all fail-safe TIA SIMATIC controller classes (S7-1200, S7-1500, S7-1500 Software Controller, S7-300, S7-400, WinAC)
Licensing
  • The engineering software can be installed on multiple computers. The number of existing licenses determines the number of computers on which the software can be used simultaneously (floating license).
  • STEP 7 Safety Basic is a subset of STEP 7 Safety Advanced for programming the fail-safe S7-1200 F Basic Controller.
  • Powerpacks can be used to upgrade an existing STEP 7 Safety Basic license.
  • Combo licenses allow you to choose between programming with the predecessor product S7 Distributed Safety and STEP 7 Safety Advanced.
  • An upgrade to a combo license is offered for the latest version of S7 Distributed Safety.
  • Software Update Service (SUS) contracts can be concluded for both STEP 7 Safety Basic and STEP 7 Safety Advanced.

You can find more information on the Software Update Service, license types, online software delivery and handling your SW licenses with the Automation License Manager here:

Benefits

STEP 7 Safety makes the advantages of TIA Portal available for fail-safe automation as well:

  • Intuitive operation and the uniform operating concept (as with standard programming) enable a fast introduction to the creation of fail-safe programs.
  • The F system is configured in the same way as standard automation.
  • Ready-to-start: The F runtime group is set up automatically on insertion of the F-CPU.
  • In connection with special signatures for the device parameters, the library concept supports in-house standardization and simplifies the validation of safety-oriented applications.
  • The Safety Administrator Editor provides central support for the administration, display and modification of safety-related parameters.
  • Uniform and integrated identification of all safety-related objects provides an instant overview.

Application

The STEP 7 Safety engineering tool allows the implementation of safety-related automation applications in TIA Portal.

The languages LAD and FBD, as well as ready-made certified blocks, are used for programming the safety programs.

Function

STEP 7 Safety provides extensive functions for the generation of safety-related automation applications in the SIMATIC Safety F system.

SIMATIC Safety is certified for use in safety mode to:

  • SIL3 (Safety Integrity Level) in accordance with IEC 61508:2010
  • Performance Level (PL) e in accordance with ISO 13849-1: 2015 or in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1: 2015

The documentation of the safety application is part of the acceptance documentation in accordance with the Machinery Directive or IEC 61508 and corresponding applicable standards. STEP 7 Safety supports validation of the safety program with standard-compliant program documentation that is generated automatically at the press of a button.

Additional functions

  • Library with a host of fail-safe logic and application blocks
  • Separation of time-critical and non-time-critical tasks by 2 runtime groups
  • Inheritance of module parameters by reusing via project library
  • Unambiguous marking of fail-safe components, parameters, blocks, etc.
  • Safety Administration Editor for support in the following tasks:
    • Display of Status and signature of the safety program
    • Display of safety mode status
    • Creation/organization of F-runtime groups
    • Display of information about F blocks
    • Definition/modification of access protection
    • Definition/modification of general settings for the safety program
  • Function signature for document history down to the block level
  • S7-PLCSIM compatibility for fail-safe CPUs
  • Know-how protection for fail-safe blocks
  • Shared device for ET 200 SP/MP/S/M/Pro fail-safe modules
  • Configuration control for SIMATIC fail-safe I/O
  • Overflow detection for fail-safe instructions available on all fail-safe S7 CPUs
  • Fail-safe communication via PROFIsafe

S7-1200 and S7-1500 highlights

  • S7-1500F/S7-1200F UDTs for fail-safe data types
  • Openness support for a host of fail-safe hardware and software functions
  • Station upload for consistent hardware and software uploading of all project data (including fail-safe project data) from a fail-safe S7-1500 CPU1) (from firmware version 2.1)
  • Efficient commissioning through modifications to the F-program during runtime in disabled safety mode.
  • Read access to fail-safe arrays of the data types INT and DINT (S7-1500)
  • Isochronous fail-safe OB for connection of isochronous PROFIsafe devices (S7-1500)
  • Fail-safe “Flexible F-Link” communication for transferring large amounts of F-data, also across network boundaries
  • Fail-safe runtime group communication via Flexible F-Link
  • F-OB pre-processing and post-processing of process values
  • Separate offline signature for Flexible F-Link communication ID and fail-safe hardware and software
  • Support of variable SENDDP/RCVDP communication IDs (DP_DP_ID)
  • Simulation mode for SENDDP and RCVDP in S7-PLCSIM mode
Investment protection

As of STEP 7 Safety V13 SP1, projects can be directly upgraded to STEP 7 Safety V17.
Upgrading of projects from previous TIA Safety versions (V11 … V13) is carried out on the basis of STEP 7 Safety Advanced V13 SP1 or V13 SP2 (latest update recommended).
The license purchased for V17 is valid for all older TIA Portal versions.
By migrating the program code and hardware configuration, it is possible to migrate S7 Distributed Safety V5.4 SP5 projects to STEP 7 Safety Advanced V17.

System requirements and compatibility with other SIMATIC products

STEP 7 Safety Advanced V17 requires STEP 7 Professional V17.

STEP 7 Safety Basic V17 requires at least STEP 7 Basic V17.

Supported operating systems and hardware requirements can be seen under STEP 7 Professional V17. The same compatibility with other SIMATIC products applies as to STEP 7 Basic / Professional V17.
