Overview
The Siemens 3RT2317-1BM40 is a robust and reliable 4-pole contactor from the SIRIUS 3RT2 series, specifically designed for switching non-inductive or weakly inductive loads (AC-1 applications). With a rated current of 22 A at 400 V / 40 °C, a 220 V DC operating coil, and convenient screw terminals, this compact Size S00 contactor is an essential component for various industrial and power distribution applications. It adheres to leading international standards like IEC 60947, ensuring high performance and safety.
Function
The Siemens 3RT2317-1BM40 contactor serves as an electromagnetic switch for remotely controlling electrical circuits. Its primary functions include:
- Four-pole switching of weak or non-inductive loads (AC-1): Ideal for resistive loads, heating, and general lighting applications.
- Disconnecting loads or power generation plants from the grid: Provides a reliable means to isolate electrical equipment.
- Transfer switching: Facilitates the changeover between different power sources or circuits.
Benefit
- High Reliability: Built to Siemens’ rigorous quality standards, ensuring long-term performance and durability in demanding industrial environments.
- Versatile Application: Perfect for AC-1 applications, offering flexibility in controlling various non-inductive loads.
- Compact Design (Size S00): Space-saving design allows for efficient panel layout and integration into control systems.
- Easy Installation: Screw terminals provide a secure and straightforward connection method.
- Comprehensive Protection Options: Designed to integrate seamlessly with various protection devices for short-circuit, overload, and overvoltage, enhancing system safety.
- Expandable Functionality: Supports the addition of auxiliary switches for enhanced control and signaling options.
- Compliance with Standards: Meets critical international standards, ensuring compatibility and safety in global applications.
Technical Details & Protection
Standard
- IEC 60947-1
- IEC 60947-4-1
- IEC 60947-5-1 (for auxiliary switches)
Protection of Device Connections: All connections, including main, auxiliary, and control supply voltage, require appropriate short-circuit and overload protection.
- Main Connections: Refer to the technical product data sheet for free-standing contactor protection. For combinations (contactor with overload relay or circuit breaker), consult the Digital/Configuration Manuals for load feeders.
- Auxiliary Connections: Protection information available in the technical product data sheet.
- Control Supply Voltage: Protection requires considering relevant standards for control panel configuration, cable dimensioning, and suitable power supply selection (e.g., current-limiting functions). Protection devices should account for contactor load characteristics (inrush, switch-on, holding power) and any other switching elements in the circuit.
Overvoltage Protection at Control Supply Voltage: This 3RT23 contactor can be retrofitted with external surge suppressors (RC elements, varistors, diodes, or diode assemblies) to dampen opening surges in the coil. These accessories must be ordered separately. Note that damping increases break, NO contact opening, and NC contact closing delay times.
Connection Methods:
- Main Circuit: Screw terminals (on 3RT231 and 3RT232 also available with spring-loaded terminals).
- Auxiliary and Control Circuit: Screw terminals.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): Fulfills requirements for environment category A. When used with frequency converters, observe configuration notes in the Equipment Manual.
Contact Reliability of Auxiliary Contacts: For switching voltages V and currents mA, the integrated auxiliary contacts (for 3RT231: 1 integrated; for 3RT232-3RT234: 1 NO + 1 NC integrated) or additional auxiliary switches ensure high contact reliability. These are particularly suitable for solid-state circuits with currents mA at V.
Motor Protection: For overload protection, 3RU2 thermal overload relays or 3RB3 electronic overload relays can be directly mounted onto 3RT23 contactors.
Operating Mechanism: The 3RT2317-1BM40 features a conventional DC operating mechanism, controlled via the A1-A2 control supply voltage connection with varying operating ranges (refer to technical product data sheet for specifics).
Application
The Siemens 3RT2317-1BM40 contactor is ideally suited for:
- Switching non-inductive or weakly inductive loads (AC-1)
- Disconnecting loads from the grid
- Disconnecting power generation plants from the grid
- Transfer switching applications
