Overview
The Siemens 3RT2926-1BF00 is a crucial surge suppression module in the SIRIUS modular system, specifically engineered to protect contactor coils from inductive voltage surges. When the contactor coil is de-energized, it generates a high-voltage spike (known as an opening surge) that can damage sensitive control electronics and decrease the lifespan of the contactor itself. This varistor-based module effectively clamps these voltage peaks, ensuring reliable and long-lasting operation in demanding industrial environments.
Key Benefit
-
Extended Equipment Life: Significantly prolongs the operational life of the contactor coil and surrounding control components by suppressing harmful voltage transients.
-
System Reliability: Prevents spurious faults and costly downtime caused by transient voltage spikes, contributing to a more stable industrial process.
-
Effortless Integration: Features a simple, clip-on/plug-on design for direct mounting to the 3RT2 contactor coil terminals (Size S0), requiring no additional space or wiring modifications.
-
Wide AC Voltage Range: Suitable for a broad range of high-voltage AC control circuits from 400 V AC to 600 V AC (50/60 Hz).
-
Industry Standard Quality: Manufactured by Siemens SIRIUS, a global leader in industrial control components.

Technical Function
The Varistor (Voltage Dependent Resistor) is the core component of this suppressor. It is connected in parallel with the contactor coil. Under normal operating conditions (400-600V AC), the varistor has a very high resistance, drawing negligible current. However, when a transient voltage surge occurs (like the coil de-energizing), the varistor’s resistance drops sharply, diverting the surge current and clamping the overvoltage to a safe, acceptable level. This process protects the coil insulation and prevents the transient from propagating further into the control system.
