Overview
SIMATIC Target™ is an add-on for the Simulink® software from The MathWorks. This makes it possible to also use model-based design with MATLAB® and Simulink for SIMATIC S7-1500 Controllers and Industrial Edge from Siemens. For this purpose, executable code for all ODK-compatible S7-1500 Controllers (S7-1500 Software Controllers, ET 200SP Open Controllers, CPU 1518 ODK/MFP and PLCSIM Advanced as of V3.0) or the LiveTwin Edge app is generated directly from Simulink via SIMATIC Target.

- Support for Simulink External Mode for the LiveTwin Edge app: This allows the model behavior to be observed directly on the runtime. This enables a comparison of model behavior between Simulink simulation and real-time execution on LiveTwin. In addition, External Mode allows module parameters to be adjusted directly in the runtime, thus directly influencing the runtime behavior of the model.
- “Download in RUN” also for Simulink models: The handling of the Load and Unload ODK blocks is directly included in the generated PLC blocks. This eliminates the need for a RUN/STOP transition to run the updated model in an S7-1500.
- The web visualization of the Simulink model is now based on the new PLC Web API: This means that additional DBs are no longer created in the user program for the website. In addition, no special system function calls are required. Web visualization is also possible for up to four different Simulink models simultaneously.
- Support of TIA Portal Multiuser: Code generation from a Simulink model can now be done directly in a Local Session of a TIA Portal Multiuser project.
