Siemens SIMATIC S7-300, FM352-5 with PNP output, High Speed Boolean Processor, for high-speed linking, 12 DI, 8 DO, 1 encoder interface for RS422 incr./SSI encoder
Overview
- The FM 352-5 high-speed Boolean processor provides extremely fast binary control and also some of the fastest switching processes ever possible (cycle time: 1 µs).
- Programming is possible with LAD or FBD.
- The available set of statements comprises bit statements (partial statement set of STEP 7), timers, counters, frequency dividers, frequency generators, shift registers.
- 12 integral DI / 8 integral DO.
- 2 versions: sinking or sourcing digital outputs.
- 1 channel for connection of a 24-V incremental encoder, a 5-V incremental encoder (RS422) or an SSI absolute encoder.
Micro Memory Card required for use of the FM 352-5
Note:
We offer position measuring systems and preassembled connecting cables for counting and positioning functions under SIMODRIVE Sensor or Motion Connect 500, see under this link.
Application
The FM 352-5 High-speed Boolean processor offers extremely fast binary functions and some of the quickest switching procedures ever possible. The module is already used in many sectors, including:
- Packaging machines
- Printing and paper machines
- Machines for food and beverage production
- Machines for the production of pharmaceutical products
- Printing and punching presses
Examples of controllable sub-processes are:
- Tracking of small accessory parts at high speeds
- Guarantee of “online” quality (faulty parts are removed)
- Guarantee of functions for tool and machine safety
- Logic control of processes without jitter
Design
- S7-300 module, 80 mm wide
- 40-pin front connector for connection of DI, DQ and position encoder
- DQ current sinking or current sourcing depending on module variant
- Shaft for MMC card with FM 352-5 program
- Switch for STOP, RUN and RESET
- Assignment of input/output addresses (16 bytes each) for data exchange with a higher-level S7-CPU
- Operation of the FM352-5 is possible:
- In a central S7-300 configuration
- Distributed as a standard PROFIBUS DP slave via IM 153-1/IM 153-2 to a DP port integrated in S7-300, S7-400, WinAC or third-party master
- Stand-alone operation without higher-level PLC

- Bit instructions:
- Actual value query: Query of the actual values for
- Incremental encoders with 24 V signal voltage or
- Incremental encoders with 5 V signal voltage (RS 422) or
- SSI absolute encoders.
- Counter functions for incremental encoders
- Continuous counting
- Individual counting
- Periodic counting
- 16-bit or 32-bit value range
- Integrated 24 V power supply for position encoder
- Selectable times for DE-filter:
0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 50 µs and 1.5 ms
Mode of operation
- Creating an FM 352-5 program with STEP 7 in LAD or FBD.
- Implementation of simulations and tests on an S7-CPU or with the PLCSIM software simulation.
- Compiling an FM 352-5 program in destination code for the FM 352-5.
- Download the data directly to the module, either directly through the S7-CPU or using an MMC card.
- In RUN position: The FPGA processed the program in a cycle of 1 µs duration.
- Data exchange with the CPU is carried out via the 16-byte I/O interface.
Parameter settings
Parameters are assigned with STEP 7 or COM PROFIBUS and standardized *.GSE files. In order to accelerate the switch-on procedure, the *.GSE file is already operable.
