Function
The Siemens 3RT2016-2BF42 functions as an electromagnetically operated switching device. When the 110 V DC control voltage is applied to the coil, it generates a magnetic field that pulls the main contacts together, allowing power to flow to the connected load (e.g., a 4 kW motor). When the control voltage is removed, a spring forces the main contacts open, interrupting the power. The 1 NC auxiliary contact operates in reverse; it is normally closed and opens when the main contacts are closed, providing a clear signal for the control circuit that the contactor is energized.
