Overview
The Siemens 3RT2646-1AP05 is a high-performance SIRIUS capacitor contactor, specifically designed for switching capacitive loads (AC-6b) in reactive current compensation systems. This robust 3-pole contactor is engineered to handle loads up to 100 kVAr at 400V, making it an ideal solution for applications requiring reliable and efficient power factor correction. Its intelligent design incorporates precharging resistors and leading auxiliary contacts to effectively limit inrush current, protecting the power supply network and extending the lifespan of connected equipment. With a control supply voltage of 230V AC (50 Hz), two normally closed (2 NC) auxiliary contacts, and secure screw terminals, this Size S3 contactor provides a safe and dependable solution for your industrial automation needs.
Key Benefit
- Optimized for Capacitive Loads: Specifically designed for AC-6b applications, the 3RT2646-1AP05 effectively manages the high inrush currents associated with switching capacitors, minimizing stress on the electrical system.
- Enhanced Network Protection: The integrated precharging resistors and leading auxiliary contacts significantly limit peak charging currents, reducing harmonic distortion and protecting the power supply network from negative impacts.
- Reliable Performance: Built to stringent IEC standards (IEC 60947-1, 60947-4-1, etc.), this contactor ensures reliable and consistent operation in demanding industrial environments.
- Versatile Application: Suitable for switching both choked and unchoked capacitors in reactive current compensation systems, as well as for switching converters.
- Easy Integration: The standard Size S3 form factor and screw terminals facilitate straightforward installation and integration into existing control panels.
- Robust Auxiliary Contacts: Equipped with two normally closed (2 NC) auxiliary contacts, providing essential feedback and control signals for monitoring and interlocking applications.
Function & Operation
The 3RT26 series contactors are a specialized variant of the 3RT2 contactor family. Their key feature is the use of precharging resistors, which are connected via leading auxiliary contacts that close just before the main contacts. This action creates a controlled path for the initial charging of the capacitor, effectively dampening the high inrush current peak. Once the capacitors are sufficiently charged, the main contacts close, bypassing the resistors and providing a low-resistance path for continuous current flow. This two-stage process significantly reduces electrical stress on the system, prolongs the life of the capacitor banks, and ensures a stable power supply network. The integrated 2 NC auxiliary contacts provide crucial feedback for control systems, indicating the state of the contactor.
Short-Circuit & Overload Protection
Proper protection is essential for the safe and reliable operation of the Siemens 3RT2646-1AP05. All main and auxiliary connections must be protected against short circuits and overloads. Refer to the technical product data sheet for specific protection requirements for a standalone contactor. For integrated systems, consult the Digital Configuration Manual for load feeders. Overvoltage protection for the control supply voltage can be achieved by retrofitting the contactor with compatible surge suppressors such as RC elements, varistors, or diodes, which are available separately as accessories.
