Application
The SIPLUS CP 340 communications module is the cost-effective and complete solution for serial communication. It can be used in SIMATIC S7-300 and ET 200M (with S7 as master device).
Point-to-point coupling is possible e.g. to:
- SIMATIC S7 and SIMATIC S5 automation systems and the systems of many other manufacturers,
- Printers
- Robot PLCs
- Modems
- Scanners, bar code readers etc.
Design
The communications processor is characterized by the following mechanical features:
- Rugged plastic housing
- LEDs:
for “Send”, “Receive” and “Fault” - Communications interface
Function
A number of implemented standard protocols facilitate data exchange with a wide variety of partners:
- ASCII:
For interfacing to third-party systems with simple transmission protocols, e.g. protocols with start and end characters or with block check characters. The interface handshake signals can be queried and controlled via the user program. - Printer driver:
For logging process states and events on a printer. - 3964 (R) (not for RS 485):
For interfacing to Siemens devices or third-party components via the standardized and open Siemens protocol 3964(R). A 3964(R) driver with standard values as well as a parameterizable 3964(R) driver are implemented.
Parameterization
Parameterization of the SIPLUS CP 340 communications module is especially user-friendly and simple:
- The user assigns the module characteristics via a parameterization tool integrated in STEP 7, e.g.
- which implemented protocol drivers should be used or
- which driver-specific characteristics should be used.
- Parameterization via CPU:
The programming device is simply connected to the CPU. The configuration data is stored in a system block that is saved in the CPU. When modules are replaced, the new module is therefore immediately ready for use. - Configuration package (on CD):
With electronic manual, parameterization screen forms and standard function blocks for communicating with the CP.
