Siemens SIMATIC S7-300, positioning module FM 351 for rapid/slow traverse Drives incl. configuration package on CD
Overview
- Two-channel positioning module for rapid traverse/creep speed drives
- 4 digital outputs per channel for motor control
- Incremental or synchronous-serial position feedback
Note:
We offer position measuring systems and preassembled connecting cables for counting and positioning functions under SIMODRIVE Sensor or Motion Connect 500, see under this link.
Application
The FM 351 two-channel positioning module handles the adjustment of mechanical axes on rapid-traverse and creep-speed drives. The module is used for positioning adjustment axes and setting-up axes, preferably with standard motors, controlled via contactors or frequency converters.
The module is used in:
- Packaging machines
- Lifting gear and conveying equipment
- Woodworking machinery
- Paper and printing machinery
- Rubber- and plastics-processing machines
- Machine tools
Design
A positioning controller with the FM 351 comprises the following essential components:
- FM 351:
- For the positioning of two independent axes
- S7-300-CPU:
- For sequence control
- To start/stop the positioning
- Programming device:
- For programming the STEP 7 program
- For parameterization FM 351 with STEP 7 via parameterization screens
- For testing/commissioning
- Operator panel (optional):
- For operation and monitoring the machine
- For error diagnostics
Coupling between FM 351 and the CPU is via technology modules.
Function
Positioning functionality
- Setup:
Traversing of the rapid traverse/creep speed axis at the “touch of a button”. - Absolute incremental mode:
Traversing the axis to an absolute target position. The numerical values are stored in a table on the FM 351. - Relative incremental mode:
The axis is moved by a predefined distance. - Active homing:
For synchronizing after switching on the controller when using incremental encoders.
Special functions
- Work offset
- Set reference point
- Delete distance-to-go
Mode of operation
Preliminary steps for positioning:
- Mechanical/electronic tuning:
Conveniently by entering machine data. - Specify target position and traversing velocity via the S7 CPU or configuration software.
- Transmission of interface signals from the CPU to the FM 351 (start, stop).
The FM 351 handles actual positioning:
- Each channel is assigned 4 digital outputs that control the functions rapid traverse, creep speed, counterclockwise rotation, clockwise rotation.
- Depending on the distance to the target, creep speed or rapid traverse/creep speed is specified.
- After reaching the cut-off point, the module monitors the target approach. After reaching the target range, a message is sent to the CPU.
