Overview
- 4-channel interface module for PTO (Pulse Train Output)
- 3 signal interfaces can be configured for speed and direction:
- 24 V asymmetrical up to 200 kHz
- RS422, 5 V symmetrical up to 1 MHz
- TTL 5 V asymmetrical up to 200 kHz
- 3 signal types can be configured:
- Pulse and direction
- Pulses for forward movement and pulses for backwards movement
- 2 phase-shifted signals, with simple or quadruple evaluation
- Supported technology objects:
- Speed axis (S7-1500, S7-1500T)
- Positioning axis (S7-1200, S7-1500, S7-1500T)
- Synchronous axis (S7-1500, S7-1500T)
- Probe (S7-1500, S7-1500T)
Application
The TM PTO 4 technology module enables drives with PTI interfaces (Pulse Train Input) to be controlled. A total of 4 axes can be controlled. This means that with the axis technology objects of the SIMATIC S7-1500 and SIMATIC S7-1200 Controllers it is also possible to connect less sophisticated drives which do not have a PROFINET interface. Open-loop control and motion control take place in the CPU with the module converting the control data into digital signals.
Design
The TM PTO 4 features all the advantages of the S7-1500 design:
- Mounting on the S7-1500 DIN rail using a single screw
- Standardized 40-pin front connector with screw-type terminals or push-in connections
- Connectable core cross-sections: 0.25 mm2 to 1.5 mm2 (AWG 24 to 16)
- Prewiring position of the front connector
- Front flap with expandable cable compartment, even if fully wired
- The 1:1 allocation of channel status or diagnostics LED, terminal and inscription;
permits fast location and elimination of errors. Assistance is provided by the wiring diagram printed on the inside of the front door. - Integrated shielding concept
Included in the scope of delivery:
- One labeling strip for manual labeling
- One U connector
- Printed front door
- Power supply element, shield bracket, and shield terminal
Function
- Uniform display and diagnostics concept:
- Module status display for ERROR (red LED) and RUN (green LED)
- Channel status display for signal state log. “0” and log. “1” for digital inputs and outputs
- Display for monitoring the 24 V DC supply voltage (green LED)
- Interfaces for each axis (configurable):
- 2 digital outputs for speed as frequency and direction
- 1 digital output for “Enable Drive”
- 1 digital input for “Drive Ready”
- 1 digital input for a reference point switch
- Depending on the signal interface, one more digital input for using with the Measuring Input technology object
- Signal interface for speed and direction:
- 24 V asymmetrical
- RS422, 5 V symmetrical
- TTL 5 V asymmetrical
- Signal types;
data for speed and direction can be transmitted in various ways. There are 3 different signal types to choose from:- Pulse and direction
- Pulses for forward movement and pulses for backwards movement
- 2 phase-shifted signals, as used by many incremental position encoders.
One complete period can be selected as 1 increment or one period can represent 4 increments.
- Supported functions, controlled by the higher-level axis:
- Reference point approach
- Measuring input
- Control of the drive state via “Enable Drive” and “Drive Ready”
- Error handling
- The TM PTO4 is compatible with the technology objects of the S7-1500 and S7-1500T
- Positioning axis
- Speed-controlled axis
- Synchronous axis
- Positioning axis of the SIMATIC S7-1200 Controller, FW V4.0 or higher
- Uniform system functions of SIMATIC S7-1500 and ET 200MP:
- Isochronous mode
- Identification and maintenance data
- Firmware update
- Unambiguous labeling on front of module
- Uniform front connector
