Function
The Siemens 3RT2038-1AM20 power contactor functions as an electrically operated switch. When the 208 V AC control voltage is applied to the coil, it creates a magnetic field that closes the main contacts. This allows the high-current power circuit to flow to the connected load, such as a motor.
When the control voltage is removed, a spring forces the main contacts to open, interrupting the power flow and de-energizing the load. The auxiliary contacts switch simultaneously, providing a signal for control systems or interlocks. The 3-pole configuration is perfect for switching 3-phase motors.
