Overview
The Siemens 3RT2326-2BM40 is a high-performance 4-pole contactor from the SIRIUS 3RT23 series, engineered for reliable control of resistive and slightly inductive loads (AC-1 applications). With a rated operational current of 40 A at 400 V and 40 °C, this contactor is ideal for a wide range of industrial applications, including switching heaters, lighting, or power generation plants. Its 220 V DC operating mechanism ensures precise and efficient control.
Equipped with 1 normally open (NO) and 1 normally closed (NC) integrated auxiliary contacts, the 3RT2326-2BM40 provides essential feedback and interlocking capabilities for complex control circuits. The innovative spring-loaded terminals offer fast, secure, and vibration-resistant wiring, significantly reducing installation time and increasing operational reliability. As part of the compact Size S0 range, it allows for space-saving integration within control panels.
Benefit
- Optimized for AC-1 Loads: Specifically designed for efficient and reliable switching of non-inductive or slightly inductive loads, ensuring long operational life.
- High Current Rating: Handles up to 40A at 400V, suitable for demanding power switching applications.
- Integrated Auxiliary Contacts: Features 1 NO and 1 NC auxiliary contacts for enhanced control circuit flexibility and signaling.
- Fast & Secure Wiring: Spring-loaded terminals provide quick, tool-free wiring, superior connection integrity, and resistance to vibration.
- Space-Saving Design: Compact Size S0 construction optimizes panel real estate, ideal for applications with limited space.
- Reliable DC Coil Operation: 220V DC coil ensures consistent performance and compatibility with various DC control systems.
- Compliance with Global Standards: Manufactured to rigorous IEC 60947 standards, guaranteeing international compatibility and safety.
Function
- Four-Pole Switching: Capable of making and breaking four main power contacts simultaneously, suitable for 3-phase systems with a neutral or for independent switching of multiple lines.
- Load Disconnection: Effectively disconnects resistive or slightly inductive loads from the electrical grid.
- Transfer Switching: Can be utilized in applications requiring transfer between different power sources or loads.
- Auxiliary Signaling: The integrated NO and NC auxiliary contacts provide status indication and facilitate interlocks within control circuits.
Protection & Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
Protection of Device Connections: All connections, including main, auxiliary, and control supply voltage circuits, require appropriate short-circuit and overload protection.
- Main Connections: Refer to the technical product data sheet for specific protection guidelines for a free-standing contactor. For combinations with overload relays or circuit breakers (motor feeders), consult the Digital Configuration Manual for load feeders or the Configuration Manual for load feeders.
- Auxiliary Connections: Protection details for auxiliary contacts are available in the technical product data sheet.
- Control Supply Voltage: Adhere to relevant standards for control panel configuration. Consider power supplies with current-limiting functions and select protection devices based on load characteristics (inrush current, switch-on/holding power). For recommendations on miniature or circuit breakers in control circuits, refer to “Control panel tip – Selecting and dimensioning suitable power supplies quickly and reliably.”
Overvoltage Protection (Control Supply Voltage): The 3RT23 contactors can be retrofitted with surge suppressors (RC elements, varistors, diodes, or diode assemblies) to dampen opening surges in the coil. These are available as separate accessories. Note that damping influences the break times and the delay times of contacts (see Equipment Manual for details).
Electromagnetic Compatibility: The 3RT2326-2BM40 fulfills the requirements for environment category A. When used with frequency converters, observe the configuration notes in the Equipment Manual.
Connection Methods
- Main Circuit: Features spring-loaded terminals, with convenient plug-in design for device connectors, simplifying installation.
- Auxiliary and Control Circuit: Also utilizes spring-loaded terminals for consistent and reliable connections.
Contact Reliability of Auxiliary Contacts
For switching low voltages (≤ 110 V) and currents (≤ 100 mA), the auxiliary contacts of 3RT contactors ensure a high level of contact reliability. They are particularly suitable for solid-state circuits with currents ≥ 1 mA at voltages of 17 V and higher.
Motor Protection
While the 3RT2326-2BM40 is primarily for AC-1 loads, for applications requiring motor protection against overload, SIRIUS 3RU2 thermal overload relays or SIRIUS 3RB3 electronic overload relays can be directly mounted onto the 3RT23 contactor.
Operating Mechanism Types
This specific 3RT23 contactor is equipped with a conventional DC operating mechanism, controlled via the A1-A2 control supply voltage connection. Refer to the technical product data sheet for detailed operating ranges.
Maintenance & Accessories
- Solenoid Coil Replacement: The solenoid coil for the 3RT2326-2BM40 is replaceable.
- Auxiliary Contact Expansion: The basic unit comes with two integrated auxiliary contacts (1 NO + 1 NC). Further auxiliary switches can be added to the basic unit, provided the permissible configuration is observed. Refer to “Auxiliary switches, instantaneous → Overview” for detailed information.
