- Versatile Application: Ideal for switching choked or unchoked capacitors in reactive power compensation systems and for converter applications.
- Ease of Installation: The screw terminals and compact size S0 make for straightforward installation and integration into existing control panels.
- Flexible Configuration: The design allows for the addition of various accessories like surge suppressors, which can be ordered separately to customize protection and performance.
Function
The Siemens 3RT2627-1AP65 capacitor contactor operates by employing a set of precharging resistors that are briefly connected to the circuit before the main contacts close. When the control voltage is applied, the leading auxiliary contacts close first, bringing the resistors into the circuit. This initial connection charges the capacitor slowly, mitigating the high inrush current that would otherwise occur. After a short delay, the main contacts close, bypassing the resistors and allowing the full current to flow. The contactor’s 1 NO + 2 NC auxiliary contacts provide additional functionality for signaling and interlocking within a control circuit.
Short-Circuit & Overload Protection
For comprehensive safety, all connections must be protected against short circuits and overloads. The technical product data sheet provides detailed information on protecting a standalone contactor. For more complex setups, such as motor feeders, refer to the Digital and Configuration Manuals. Auxiliary and control supply connections should also be protected in accordance with relevant standards, considering the contactor’s load characteristics and potential use of miniature or circuit breakers.
