Overview
The ET 200AL fail-safe I/O module expands the ET 200AL PN system family. It is incorporated seamlessly into the Safety Integrated concept of SIMATIC. It also supports safety-related communication via PROFIsafe. The functional safety is certified in accordance with IEC 61508. It is designed for safety-related use up to SIL 3 according to IEC 62061 and PL e according to ISO 13849.
The following fail-safe I/O module with 4x digital inputs and 2x digital outputs with 45 mm width is available:
- F-DI 4+F-DQ 2x24VDC/2A, 4xM12 PROFIsafe
Application
By using the fail-safe I/O module of the ET 200AL, it is possible to implement the safety-related application requirements as an integrated part of the overall automation. The safety functions required for fail-safe operation are integrated in the I/O module. Communication with the fail-safe SIMATIC S7 CPUs takes place via PROFIsafe.
Design
Due to the screw fastening through the front or side and installation in all mounting positions, there are many different installation options for the I/O modules, both on even surfaces and on aluminum mounting rails using sliding blocks.
The fail-safe I/O modules have:
- A backplane bus connection (ET connection) with M8 connection system for connecting to an interface module or further I/O modules
- A power supply connection with M8 connection system with forwarding
- LED display for the channel status
- LED display for the module status (DIAG)
- LED display for load voltage 2L+ (PWR), (only modules with outputs)
- Labels for the identification of channels, modules and slots
- Integrated cable tie opening
- Clear labeling on front of module:
- Plain text identification of the module type
- Channel number labeling
- Interface designation
- Clear labeling on side of module:
- Article No., functional status and FW version
- 2D matrix code (article and serial number)
- Pin assignment of all interfaces
The modules are supplied with labels for the identification of channels, modules and slots. The labels can be mechanically inscribed using commercially available labeling systems.

- Channel status display for signal state log. “0” and log. “1” (green LED)
- Module status display (DIAG, red/green LED)
- Display for monitoring the load voltage 2L+ (PWR, green LED, only modules with outputs)
