Application
The FM 350-1 is the intelligent, single-channel counter module for an extensive range of simple counting tasks. It can be used in SIMATIC S7-300 and ET 200M (with S7-300/400 as master).

Design
The module provides the encoder supply.
It has the following mechanical features:
- Compact configuration;
The rugged plastic housing contains:- Fault LEDs (GF)
- LEDs to indicate that the counter is running (CR) and the counting direction (DIR)
- LEDs for digital input and output modules.
- Slot for the front connector, protected by the front cover
- Labeling area on the front cover
- Easy installation:
The module is simply mounted in the rack and screwed tight. It can be fitted with a coding key, which assigns it permanently to a specific slot. - Coding connector (measurement range module for analog inputs) for selecting the type of encoder (5 V or 24 V)
- User-friendly wiring:
The module is wired by means of a plug-in front connector. When the connector is plugged in for the first time a coding element in the module engages, so that the connector can only be plugged into modules of the same type. When the module is replaced, the front connector can be used in its fully wired state for the new module of the same type.
Configuring package
The configuring package required for configuration comprises:

- Parameterization screen forms
- Standard function blocks for data exchange with the CPU
Function
The FM 350-1 removes load from the CPU through:
- Direct connection of incremental encoders.
- Direct connection for gate signals (e.g. light barrier) via integrated digital inputs.
- Comparison function and output of response via integrated digital outputs.
The following functions are available:
- 1 channel for counting up and down; 32 bits
- Counting frequency up to 500 kHz (for RS 422 encoders)
- Counting range either 0 to 32 bit or +/- 31 bit
- Counting process single or periodic
- 1-, 2- or 4-fold evaluation
- Connectable incremental encoder
- Gate control by level, pulses or software control
- Setting via digital input
- Loading of counter with defined start value
- Comparison function with two definable comparison values
- Alarm response on reaching a comparison value, zero crossing, exceeding a range (selectable)
- Output signal (24 V level), controlled by the comparison function: Can be selected with jointly definable pulse duration or as duration signal from comparison value up to limit of counting range
