Overview
The Siemens 3RT2617-1BB45 is a specialized capacitor contactor designed for the reliable and efficient switching of capacitive loads (AC-6b). It is a crucial component in reactive current compensation systems and for switching converters. This model handles loads up to 12.5 kVAr at 400 V and features a 3-pole configuration with a 24 V DC control supply voltage. Its compact Size S00 design and screw terminals make it easy to integrate into a wide range of industrial applications.
Key Features & Benefit
- Optimized for Capacitive Loads: Specifically engineered with precharging resistors that engage via leading auxiliary contacts. This unique design effectively limits the peak charging current, minimizing disturbances and negative impacts on your power supply network.
- Enhanced System Stability: By controlling the inrush current, the contactor prevents voltage sags and harmonics, leading to improved power quality and system stability.
- Durable and Reliable: Built to Siemens’ high standards, the 3RT2617-1BB45 ensures long-term operational reliability and performance, even in demanding industrial environments.
- Versatile Application: Ideal for switching both choked and unchoked capacitors in power factor correction systems, as well as for controlling converters.
- Easy Integration: The compact Size S00 form factor and straightforward screw terminal connections facilitate simple and fast installation.
- Auxiliary Contacts: Equipped with two normally closed (2 NC) auxiliary contacts, providing additional flexibility for control and signaling circuits.
- International Standards Compliance: Meets major international standards including IEC 60947-1, IEC 60947-4-1, IEC 60947-5-1, IEC 60831-1, and IEC 61921, ensuring safety and compatibility.
Function
The Siemens 3RT2617-1BB45 capacitor contactor operates by utilizing integrated precharging resistors. These resistors are connected in series with the main contacts and are activated by a set of leading auxiliary contacts. When the contactor is energized, the leading auxiliary contacts close first, allowing a controlled charging of the capacitor through the resistors. This process effectively dampens the high inrush current. Immediately after, the main contacts close, bypassing the resistors for continuous operation. This sequence significantly reduces electrical and mechanical stress on the components and the power grid.
Protection and Safety:
- Short-Circuit & Overload Protection: All connections (main, auxiliary, and control) must be protected with suitable external measures. Refer to the technical data sheet for detailed recommendations and information on creating compliant device combinations.
- Overvoltage Protection: The contactor’s coil circuit can be retrofitted with optional surge suppressors (RC elements, varistors, diodes) to dampen opening surges. Please note that adding these suppressors may slightly increase the contactor’s break times.
Configuration & Customization:
- Auxiliary Switch Expansion: The 3RT2617-1BB45 comes with a set of integrated auxiliary contacts for the precharging resistors. It also includes additional free auxiliary contacts. The contactor can be further expanded with lateral auxiliary switches to meet specific control requirements.
- Surge Suppressors: Optional surge suppressors can be ordered separately to protect the control supply voltage connection from overvoltage.
