The Siemens 3RT2645-1NP35 is a high-performance capacitor contactor specifically designed for switching capacitive loads (AC-6b) up to 75 kVAr at 400 V. As a specialized version of the 3RT2 series, this size S3 contactor features integrated precharging resistors that engage via leading auxiliary contacts. This innovative design limits the peak charging current, minimizing negative impacts on the power supply network. The 3RT2645-1NP35 is ideal for use in reactive current compensation systems, switching choked or unchoked capacitors, and is also suitable for switching converters. It comes with a robust screw terminal connection and an integrated varistor for surge suppression.
The 3RT2645-1NP35 functions by utilizing leading auxiliary contacts to engage precharging resistors before the main contacts close. This critical sequence limits the inrush current that occurs when switching a capacitive load, which can be significantly higher than the steady-state current. By controlling this current spike, the contactor reduces electrical stress on the system, prevents voltage sags, and improves the overall quality of the power supply. The integrated varistor absorbs and dissipates overvoltage spikes, protecting the control circuit.
