DM8 12/24R provides 4 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs. The DM8 or DM16 name counts both directions together; it does not mean eight or sixteen input channels. Include the base-module I/O and the complete chain when checking the system limits.
Check the supply and connected loads separately
The module supply is 12/24 V DC. Relay contacts switch the external load circuit; their load-category and external-fusing requirements are separate from the module supply. Expansion relay ratings must not be copied from the base-module relays.
Allow for wiring and the expansion chain
Reserve the module width and conductor space, verify the permissible ambient conditions, and use the specified expansion connector arrangement. The base module and each expansion must meet their own supply requirements; nominally similar voltage labels are not a complete wiring plan.
