Overview
The IO-Link communication standard enables and standardizes communication between machine and plant PLCs, on the one hand, and sensors, actuators and other field devices, on the other hand.
The IO-Link I/O modules enable the simple connection of binary standard sensors and actuators, whereby the signals and energy supply are transferred via IO-Link (IO-Link master).
The IO-Link I/O modules can be connected to any IO-Link masters and, in this way, fieldbus-independent and distributed I/O units can be formed. The universal usage of the IO-Link DIQ I/O modules enables additional flexibility here.
With the ET 200AL IO-Link I/O modules, a comprehensive portfolio of digital input, output and input/output modules with the design and system features of the ET 200AL is available.
Application
As communication system, IO-Link can provide advantages when complex sensors or actuators are to be used, for example. These IO-Link devices can be connected via an IO-Link master and integrated in the automation with reduced workload, e.g. for cabling.
If such an IO-Link master is present, additional binary signal/actuator signals can be connected distributed in the field via the IO-Link I/O modules. IO-Link masters can be expanded to form a modular I/O station with the IO-Link I/O modules with which distributed signals can be recorded or output in the plant or machine.
The following IO-Link I/O modules are available:
- IO-Link, digital input module DI 8X24VDC, 8XM8
- IO-Link, digital input module DI 16X24VDC, 8XM12
- IO-Link, digital output module DQ 8X24VDC/2A, 8XM12
- IO-Link, digital input/output module DIQ 4+DQ 4X24VDC/0.5A
- IO-Link, digital input/output module DIQ 16X24VDC/0.5A
Design
Due to the point-to-point connections with IO-Link, a star topology occurs with the connection of the IO-Link I/O modules to an IO-Link master. This can be combined in any way with other ET 200 I/O modules with the fieldbus line topology. In this way, a topology that is ideally adapted to the requirements of machines and plants can be realized.
The IO-Link I/O modules can be connected both to any IO-Link masters with IP20 degree of protection and to IO-Link masters with IP67 degree of protection.
The IO-Link I/O modules and the respective IO-Link master are connected via the unshielded M12 connection cable. The signals and the energy are transferred via this cable. This saves work and costs for the connection technology. The range of the point-to-point connection is 20 m in line with the IO-Link specification.
The ET 200AL IO-Link I/O modules allow very flexible installation (screw fastening through the front or side, any mounting positions) either on a level surface or on aluminum support profiles using sliding blocks.
The IO-Link I/O modules have:
- M12 interface for IO-Link and power supply
- LED display for the channel status
- LED display for the module status (DIAG)
- LED display for load voltage 2L+ (PWR, only modules with outputs)
- Labels for the identification of channels, modules and slots
- Integrated cable tie opening
- Clear labeling on front of module:
- Plain text identification of the module type
- Channel number labeling
- Interface designation
- Clear labeling on side of module:
- Article No., functional status and FW version
- 2D matrix code (article and serial number)
- Pin assignment of all interfaces
The modules are supplied with labels for the identification of channels, modules and slots. The labels can be mechanically inscribed using commercially available labeling systems.
Function
- Uniform display and diagnostics concept:
- Channel status display for signal state log. “0” and log. “1” (green LED)
- Module status display (DIAG, red/green LED)
- Display for monitoring the load voltage 2L+ (PWR, green LED, only modules with outputs)
- Supported functions:
- Channel-specific parameter assignment
- Module-granular diagnostics and diagnostic interrupt
- Safety-related switch-off of digital outputs according to IEC 62061 (SILCL2) and ISO 13849-1 (Cat 3/PL d)
- IO-Link V1.1
- Support of the IO-Link “general profile”
- Firmware update
Engineering
Engineering of the IO-Link I/O modules takes place via the IO-Link engineering of the respective IO-Link master. For this purpose, a device description file (IODD) is made available for each IO-Link I/O module.
