Overview
- PID Professional combines the two option packages Modular PID Control and Standard PID Control in TIA Portal.

Licensing
- The engineering software can be installed on multiple computers. The number of existing licenses determines the number of computers on which the software can be used simultaneously (floating license).
- The engineering software requires STEP 7 Professional. The software is part of the STEP 7 Professional DVD and/or the program download. A license key is required for activation.
- During runtime, each CPU requires its own runtime license.
- Upgrades to PID Professional (engineering license or Runtime single license) are offered for Standard PID Control/Modular PID Control from V11 onwards.

Application
With the PID Professional software package, it is possible to use the proven controller solutions from Modular PID Control and Standard PID Control in TIA Portal. This software package is used when implementing simple to highly complex PID controllers. By interconnecting the supplied standard function blocks almost any control structure can be implemented.
Modular PID Control is preferred for mid-range and high-end control applications and process engineering. It is always suitable when minimum memory usage and the fastest execution times along with optimized adaptation to the control task are required.
Standard PID Control permits the simple integration of continuous PID controllers, pulse controllers and step controllers into the application program The parameterization tool with integrated controller setting allows the controller to be parameterized and optimally adjusted in the shortest possible time and so saves engineering costs. The control algorithm for the step controller helps to extend the service life of the final controlling elements.
Both controllers can be used in S7-300 (CPU 313 and higher), S7-400, and WinAC.
Design
The PID Professional software package comprises the two software packages Modular PID Control and Standard PID Control.
Both controller solutions contain commissioning functions and standard function blocks for a wide range of different controller structures.
The commissioning software has an intuitive and easy-to-use interface.
A large number of implementation examples are available for both controllers. This simplifies the implementation of different controller structures.
The following ready-to-use PID controllers are supplied with the Standard PID Control:

The configuration tool is seamlessly integrated into STEP 7 (TIA Portal). It provides the following functions:

The commissioning software contains all screens for commissioning Modular and Standard PID Control. - Working with trend view:
The trend view is used for graphical illustration of the setpoint, actual value and manipulated variable over time. The values of the trend view are updated at configurable intervals. This is of particular benefit for the verification of the process quality and supports the troubleshooting. - Wizard for optimization of control circuits:
The clear and simple controller optimization and the commissioning by means of the PID Self-Tuner can be performed even without any knowledge of control systems. - Variable transient response in the case of the continuous PID controller:
The transient response of the control loop can be preselected in such a way that the control loop settles with an overshoot of approximately 10% and therefore gains dynamic response. If this is not desirable, aperiodic settling (no overshoot) can be set. - User-friendly, context-sensitive help:
At any point in the program the appropriate help is available upon request.
Standard PID Control functions
The controller structure for Standard PID Control is pre-assembled and the data structure is fixed. The following functions can be switched on and off by means of software switches:
