Overview
The Siemens 3RT2645-1AB05 is a high-performance capacitor contactor from the SIRIUS line, specifically engineered for the reliable switching of capacitive loads up to 75 kVAr at 400 V. As a specialized version of the 3RT2 series, this 3-pole contactor is designed to minimize the negative impacts of high inrush currents associated with switching capacitors. Its innovative design, which includes leading auxiliary contacts and precharging resistors, ensures a smooth and controlled charging process, protecting both the contactor and the power network. Ideal for use in reactive current compensation systems and for switching converters, the 3RT2645-1AB05 provides robust and safe operation.
Key Features & Benefits
- AC-6b Switching Capability: Specifically designed for switching capacitive loads, limiting peak charging current to protect the system.
- Integrated Precharging Resistors: Leading auxiliary contacts bring precharging resistors online before the main contacts close, effectively dampening inrush current.
- High Performance: Rated for 75 kVAr at 400 V, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
- Reliable Control: Operates with a 24V AC, 50 Hz control supply voltage, ensuring compatibility with standard control systems.
- Robust Construction: Size S3 frame with screw terminals for secure and durable connections.
- Safety Standards: Complies with multiple international standards, including IEC 60947 series and IEC 60831 series, ensuring reliability and safety.
- Expandable Auxiliary Contacts: Features 2 NC auxiliary contacts and can be expanded with lateral auxiliary switches for greater control flexibility.
Function
The Siemens 3RT2645-1AB05 contactor’s primary function is to safely and efficiently switch capacitive loads, such as those found in power factor correction banks. When a capacitor is switched on, it draws a very high inrush current that can stress components and disturb the power grid. The 3RT2645-1AB05 solves this by using leading auxiliary contacts to introduce a set of precharging resistors into the circuit for a fraction of a second. This limits the initial current spike, allowing for a gradual charge before the main contacts close to complete the circuit. This mechanism prolongs the life of the capacitor bank and the contactor itself, while also improving the stability of the power network.
Protection & Safety
To ensure optimal performance and safety, proper protection measures for all connections are essential.
- Short-Circuit & Overload Protection (Main Connections): Refer to the technical product data sheet for specific protection requirements. For combined setups (e.g., with overload relays or circuit breakers), consult the Siemens Digital Configuration Manual for Load Feeders.
- Short-Circuit & Overload Protection (Auxiliary Connections): Specific information is available in the technical product data sheet.
- Short-Circuit & Overload Protection (Control Supply): Adhere to relevant standards for control panel configuration. Consider using a power supply with a current-limiting function or suitable miniature circuit breakers.
- Overvoltage Protection: The contactor coil circuit can be retrofitted with surge suppressors (RC elements, varistors, etc.) to dampen opening surges. These are available separately as accessories. Note that adding damping may slightly increase break times.
Configuration & Accessories
- Auxiliary Switches: The 3RT2645-1AB05 comes with integrated auxiliary contacts for the resistors and an additional 2 NC auxiliary contacts. The unit can be expanded with additional lateral auxiliary switches to meet complex control requirements.
- Surge Suppressors: For enhanced overvoltage protection, separate surge suppressors can be added to the coil circuit.
