Function
The primary function of the Siemens 3TB4222-0XD2 contactor is to switch a power circuit on and off. When the 42V AC coil is energized, it creates a magnetic field that closes the main contacts, allowing power to flow to the connected load (e.g., an electric motor). Simultaneously, the auxiliary contacts change state—the NO contact closes and the NC contact opens. This change of state can be used to signal the motor’s status to a PLC or control system, or to interlock other devices for safety purposes. De-energizing the coil causes the contacts to revert to their original state, safely disconnecting the power.
